CEDRE experimentation column – testing multiphase probes

In July 2026, CEDRE carried out new tests to assess probes designed to measure different levels of oil, emulsion and water in the oil industry production systems. The tests involved installing two probes, one above the other, at a 60° angle, in a tank, to evaluate this solution as an alternative to installing a single probe at the top of the tank, which can only measure down to a depth of around 6 metres. This work comes as part of an initiative launched in 2020, when four probes were tested in the CEDRE experimentation column. Following these initial trials, one of the manufacturers modified its prototype and requested additional tests, which were carried out in 2022. This new configuration is designed to provide a technical solution for the oil and gas sector, where reliable level measurement at deep levels is critical.
