Action against aquatic litter
CEDRE works together with public and private stakeholders to help them understand, prevent and reduce pollution caused by aquatic litter.
We channel our scientific and technical expertise into supporting concrete measures to protect aquatic environments.
Our expertise covers both macro-litter and microplastics on the shoreline, in ports, in watercourses, as well as in stormwater and wastewater systems.

TO AQUATIC LITTER

Supporting public policies
We play a key role as France's national focal point for scientific and technical support on aquatic litter, working with the French Environment Ministry.
We support French delegations at European level within the context of the MSFD, as well as in various international bodies such as the OSPAR Convention, the Barcelona Convention and the International Maritime Organization.
We also coordinate monitoring networks, in close collaboration with the French Water Agencies and the French Biodiversity Agency. Through these actions, we are able to monitor trends and provide support to decision-makers on the implementation of effective reduction measures.
Our services to reduce chronic litter
We provide support to local authorities, ports, protected natural areas and industry to help them understand the issue, implement best practices and reduce aquatic litter within their boundaries.
Our services include conducting on-site assessments to determine the level of pollution and identify its source, developing action plans, and proposing technical recommendations tailored to each situation.
In addition to these studies, laboratory analyses can be performed. Alongside this work, we develop documentary resources and provide training in an effort to improve practices and enhance environmental protection.

Plastic pellets
Plastic pellets can cause both chronic and accidental pollution.
CEDRE provides support to authorities, equipment suppliers and industry players to reduce losses and improve clean-up practices in order to mitigate the presence of plastic pellets in the environment.
To gain a better understanding of the dispersal of pellet losses and test concrete solutions, our technical facilities now include a sandy area and an experimental test tank dedicated to work on microplastics and plastic pellets.
These facilities can be used to test equipment and simulate scenarios with a view to identifying the most effective clean-up strategies and techniques.
We also assist industrial companies in the development of action plans on the prevention of and response to plastic pellet losses.
CEDRE has published an operational guide to assist industrial sites in preventing plastic pellet spills and in responding to incidents potentially leading to losses into the environment.
