ECODEM Project: Finalization and Thesis Defense
Published on 25.06.2026
The ECODEM PhD project, dedicated to the economy of marine litter and conducted by Aanchal JAIN under the joint supervision of the AMURE laboratory and CEDRE, has concluded with the defense of her thesis.
Supported by the Brittany Region and CEDRE, this project aimed to better integrate economic and social dimensions into the analysis of marine plastic pollution, a challenge that is still insufficiently addressed in international and European marine environment management frameworks.
At the intersection of ecological economics, environmental sciences, and public policy analysis, this work has notably enabled the development of tools to analyze the socio-economic impacts of plastic pollution, study its effects on ecosystems and human well-being, and propose an evaluation framework for public policies aimed at preventing this type of pollution.
This thesis contributes to strengthening the links between environmental expertise and socio-economic analysis to inform public decision-making regarding marine plastic pollution challenges. CEDRE congratulates Aanchal JAIN on obtaining her doctorate and thanks all the partners who contributed to this research project.
