On 7 December 1991, on its way from Constanza (Romania) to France, the Romanian cargo ship Scaieni was caught in a storm. It sank east of Sicily (Italy) with its cargo of 3 057 tonnes of ammonium nitrate. 1 crew member was killed and 10 went missing.
