As part of the Interreg Free LitterAT project, Ireland, Portugal and France are implementing pilot clean-up operations at litter hotspots.  The aim is to test different clean-up techniques in order to identify the solutions best suited to the specific characteristics of the different shorelines.  CEDRE is coordinating these activities between the different project partners and organising the pilot operations carried out in France.

In September, a trial was carried out at the mouth of the Courant de Contis in the Landes area, in partnership with the municipality of Saint-Julien-en-Born and the Syndicat Mixte du Littoral Landais. Various equipment and techniques were tested in the field to assess their effectiveness, operational constraints and ease of implementation.  The aim was to identify operational and transferable solutions for local authorities and coastal managers.

The lessons learnt from this trial will be fed into methodological guides and training materials for coastal managers.
