Spill response equipment and products

Faced with the constant risks of accidental water pollution, it is essential to have reliable response equipment and products that are capable of responding quickly and effectively to emergency situations.

At CEDRE, we channel our expertise into the assessment of equipment and products designed to respond to oil spills, chemical spills and aquatic litter, on behalf of our partners, manufacturers and distributors.

We also provide an up-to-date database of response resources available on the market.

FOR AN EFFECTIVE RESPONSE

Equipment evaluation

Expertise and field testing

As an independent organisation, we carry out these tests meticulously and objectively, guaranteeing reliable, impartial results with complete confidentiality. These tests provide us with excellent knowledge of the equipment available on the market. We draw on this knowledge during our response missions and training courses.

CEDRE's facilities are perfectly suited to assessing equipment in temperate conditions. For Arctic, tropical, estuarine or urban conditions, the tests are carried out at our partners' sites to ensure real-life conditions. We can also make our facilities available to our clients to use or test equipment.

Our three types of tests

We assess response equipment using three types of tests, taking into account:

  • The types of potential pollutants (oil, chemicals, aquatic litter, etc.)
  • The real-life environmental conditions (current, temperature, salinity, etc.)
  • The personnel and equipment required for deployment
Equipment testing

Standardised tests

To characterise or compare different devices and products, based on standards (AFNOR, ASTM).

These tests are carried out at the request of a manufacturer or partner, on different types of products (sorbents, dispersants, etc.) or equipment (pumps, skimmers, etc.).

Custom tests

To demonstrate the equipment's ability to respond to a specific situation.

For this, we develop protocols and test benches tailored to the client's requirements.

Several devices can be evaluated simultaneously.

Deployment tests

To reproduce the real-life conditions in which the equipment will be used.

We simulate a spill response operation in order to identify the advantages and drawbacks of the equipment. This type of test can be carried out in different environments (river, harbour, area with strong currents, marsh, etc.).

Response product effectiveness

We test the effectiveness of different types of spill response products in our laboratory. All our tests are carried out in compliance with strict protocols and clearly defined methods standardised by the French standardisation association AFNOR. We ensure that every product, whether it is intended to disperse, degrade or eliminate pollutants, is assessed under controlled and reproducible conditions.

Dispersants do not have an unlimited lifetime. It is therefore essential to regularly check their condition, particularly in the case of stockpiles for emergency response.

We can, upon request, control the efficiency, and where relevant the toxicity, of a batch of dispersant. These tests determine whether the stored products remain fit for operational use, providing an indication of their performance and safety in the event of a spill.
