MANIFESTS Genius project: final conference
Published on 05.03.2026
The final meeting of the MANIFESTS Genius project, held in Brussels, brought together experts, partners and stakeholders from across Europe. It was a key moment to review two years of intensive collaboration and to discuss operational risks at sea and in ports, as well as human health considerations, in relation to HNS pollution. This meeting was also the opportunity to discuss the impacts of the HNS Convention on maritime and port authorities, with contributions from the IOPC Funds, the Port of Antwerp-Bruges and DGMM.
This project aimed to assess the risks related to volatile and gaseous HNS, including alternative shipping fuels, and to identify emergency response solutions to protect the population and the environment. During the project, various innovative decision support tools were produced: HNS risk prediction models, a database and a decision tree to choose between shelter-in-place or evacuation, as well as a module (COPTool) for information sharing between all response stakeholders.
