Accident

On 26 September 2001, two sea valves were left open in the pump room while the tanker the Averity was loading her cargo of low sulphur diesel at Stanlow Dock. This caused a spill of 150 tonnes of diesel. Response staff contained the pollution within the dock with a boom and a bubble barrier. Cleaning operations were carried then out using sorbents and skimmers.

FT Everard, the owners of the vessel, were declared liable for the cost of the clean-up operation. They apologised and took measures to prevent another incident of this type. They were fined £10,000 (~ € 15,000).
