Accident

On 30 January 1996, the Syrian vessel Anis Rose was travelling from Durres (Albania) to Sète (France) with a cargo of 2,703 tonnes of chromium ore. In adverse weather conditions, the cargo shifted transversally, causing the ship to capsize and sink north-east off Sardinia (Italy). The wreck lies 2,000 metres deep. As the cargo did not constitute a pollution hazard, no response operations were conducted.

During salvage operations, 8 crew members were saved but 2 died and 1 went missing.
